In Progress — Point Reyes oil on canvas. Coming home from the West Coast with a small packet of watercolors inspired this more ambitious attempt, currently underway in the studio. Step by step images taken over time reveal the basic linear structure and the tug-of-war between the advancing California fog and the terrain underneath.

A recent trip to New Mexico reminded me of the challenges and benefits of painting in arid climates with watercolors. You have to work quickly as the paint dries so very fast, or adapt to a very dry technique.
25 years ago I was commissioned by the Ann Arbor City Club to depict historic homes of Ann Arbor in a series of watercolors. These paintings will be the subject of a celebration at the Club on April 29 from 4:00 to 6:30 pm. Information about this event is here:
